Our Home Renovation Services

Kitchens, Baths and Room-by-Room Remodels

Not every house needs to be rebuilt to feel new. Most of our renovation work is focused: a kitchen that no longer fits how the family cooks and gathers, a bathroom with failing tile or an awkward layout, flooring and trim throughout a main floor, or a basement finished into usable living space. We handle the full job, from demolition and framing through drywall, tile, flooring, interior finishing and fixture installation, and we coordinate the licensed trades the work requires.

For kitchen and bathroom remodels you can usually stay in the house while we work, and we plan the sequence of the job with you so the disruption to daily life is as short and predictable as possible.

Renovating Older Maine Homes

Southern Maine has a lot of older housing, from nineteenth-century farmhouses and capes to mid-century ranches, and opening up their walls often turns up surprises: undersized framing, old wiring, missing insulation, or water damage behind a tub. When that happens we stop, show you what we found, and discuss the options and costs with you before going further. That is also why we recommend setting aside a contingency on any renovation of an older house.

Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, and federal EPA rules require lead-safe work practices when renovation disturbs painted surfaces in those homes. Older homes can also contain asbestos in flooring, pipe insulation or siding. We plan for these possibilities up front rather than discovering them mid-project. Renovation work that changes structure, plumbing, electrical or heating is permitted and inspected under Maine's statewide building code in towns that enforce it.

Matching the Old With the New

Blending new work into existing architecture is one of our specialties: matching trim profiles, flooring, and siding so the renovated space looks like it belongs. What drives renovation cost is mostly scope (cosmetic updates versus moving walls, plumbing and wiring), the condition of what is behind the finishes, and your material and fixture choices.

If your plans have grown beyond one or two rooms, a whole-home renovation lets us rethink the layout and systems in one coordinated project. If you simply need more space, compare the cost of remodeling with a home addition or in-law suite. For families starting fresh, see our custom home building. We work from Gorham across Southern Maine, including Westbrook, Windham, Standish, Buxton, Scarborough, Saco, Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth.
